A branch grows by way of a process of linear extension. Luggage (carried from place to place, unpacked, revised, repacked and carried again) is closely related to baggage–and also to language. In this book. branching and luggage occupy the same space. Three texts are used: one political, one scientific, and one domestic.

Marking Time is comprised of ledger book pages occupied by black ink configurations and illegible fragments of text. As a result, the pages have been relieved of their original responsibility of keeping record and, instead, present a series of detailed abstractions that reference landscape and calligraphy.

ZINC, ZANC and ZUNC are three characters in an abstract comic – or else they are a single character conjugated according to voice, mood, tense, number and person…. Their language is asemic but their gestures are all too human. They move through their pages quickly, waking the alert reader to archetypical plights of their existence.

ADDS, a visual bookWriting and drawing use similar gestures to create visual fields for the eye to see and the mind to read. Make a mark and add another: this is a basic procedure and I use it here with different colored markers.  Seeing precedes reading. Systems and games come about through patterns and repetitions, which introduces rules. Broken rules are not the same as spontaneity - but is this always apparent?
